Crossing Over:  The Transition at the End of Life

What do we know about the dying process, and what happens after death?
Is there evidence of an afterlife, credible evidence of life after death?

In recent years, considerable research has been performed on the very limits of life, offering tantalizing clues about the process of dying, and what may lie beyond death’s boundaries in the hereafter.  Medicine and metaphysics are increasingly colliding, yielding verifiable but unexplainable accounts from people reaching clinical death, and from those around them.

The following areas of ongoing research chronicle the leading areas of inquiry about the dying process and phenomena associated with it:

  • Near-Death Experiences (NDEs):  Instances where an individual comes close to or reaches clinical death for a period of time, then is resuscitated and subsequently reports unexplained awareness of the physical environment, or aspects of a nonphysical environment
  • Pre-Death Experiences (PDEs):  Also called deathbed visions or pre-death encounters; cases where a dying person, in the days/hours leading up to their passing, report awareness of a nonphysical environment and/or predeceased loved ones
  • Shared Death Experiences (SDEs):  Instances where individuals physically and/or emotionally close to a dying person report shared perceptions or experiences ostensibly tracking that of the one passing on

The graphic shown approximates an "idealized" sequence of events reported to occur near or at end of life based on current research.  An individual generally does not report/experience all events; also, their specific order may differ from that shown.

Our life is literally nothing but a school, where we are tested, where we are put through the tumbler.  And it is our choice, and no one else's choice, whether we come out of the tumbler crushed or polished.
